The Biographers' Club Tony Lothian Prize 2014
Closing date: 31st July, 2014.
Prizes: The £2,000 Tony Lothian Prize (sponsored by her daughter, Elizabeth, Duchess of Buccleuch) supports uncommissioned first-time writers working on a biography.
Entry fee: £15 (cheques payable to the Biographers' Club).

Cinnamon Annual Debut Novel or Novella Prize
Closing date: 31st July, 2014
Prizes:  £1,000 plus a publishing contract.
Entry fee: £12.
Submit the first 10,000 words of an unpublished novel. The prize is open to authors who have not previously published a novel.

Commonword Diversity Writing For Children Prize 2014
Closing date: 1st September 2014.
Prizes: The winner's prize will be as follows: £500 cash, to be paid by cheque. Professional mentoring will be from Catherine Pellegrino & Associates - this will consist of a full manuscript assessment and an initial meeting to discuss representation potential. There is no obligation for Catherine Pellegrino to agree to professionally represent the winner. Puffin books of the winner's choice to the value of £100 (based on RRP). The runners up will be offered detailed feedback on their manuscript by Commonword

Mslexia Women's Memoir Competition 2014
Closing date: 22nd September 2014.
Prizes: First prize £5,000. Five finalists will receive free professional feedback from The Literary Consultancy, and be invited to meet literary agents and editors at a special networking event.
Entry fee: £25 per memoir.
The only competition of its type in the UK, Mslexia is looking for memoirs of at least 50,000 words of prose that narrate actual events in the writer's own life.
To enter the competition, send up to 5,000 words - which must be the first 5,000 words of the memoir.
The judging panel is comprised of memoirist and novelist Julie Myerson, literary agent Jenny Brown and Guardian Women's Editor Jane Martinson.

Third Annual Shelf Unbound Writing Competition for Best Independently Published Book, sponsored by Bowker
