5 Ideas to Confidently Unleash Your Creative Writing Skills

by Lena Tucker

Most people are under the impression that only a select number of people are able to write creatively and confidently. They have a gift or have gone to school  to learn the secrets to confidently write creative articles, blogs, and books. But in reality, almost anyone can learn to write confidently.

First of all, you can cultivate your creative thinking by actively participating in a creative activity everyday. It can be any creative activity. It can be drawing, painting, doodling, or even coloring. I like to do rubber stamping and  make simple cards for birthdays or special occasions. I also like to plan fun and creative activities, for my son's class, to do during their class parties.

I also like to write down or print out inspirational emails, sayings, or words to songs that I like or that inspire or touch my heart. This is a great place to get ideas, starting points, or topics to write confidently about. It is a great place to find creative material or ideas, that touch your heart or that matter, to write about.

Secondly, is to try something new everyday. It can be as simple as taking a different route home, which also helps to sharpen your memory. It can be to try a new type of food or just picking something that you have not tried on a menu. It can be to try out a new recipe or exercise routine. One of my favorite things that I used to do, is to take a weekly swing and salsa class. I would get my exercise in while learning new steps to dances. These new adventures or activities will help to inspire you with new ideas of things to write about and also help your confidence and creatively.

Thirdly, is to day dream. Just taking time to let your mind wander and daydream about your plans for your life, your aspirations, or your goals. I like to day dream or envision my future goals or aspirations being accomplished or met. This also helps to keep me motivated towards working towards my goals. Daydreaming also helps to develope your imagination. Spending time to just daydream and image all sorts of magical or wonderful things helps in the developement of adding more depth and description to writing. It is also fun to just leave the cares of your life behind for a couple of minutes. Then you can come back, refreshed, and ready to write more confidently and creatively.

Fourthly, you can broaden your creative writing by reading everything that you can get your hands on or that interests you. This not only expands your mind but it can also open your mind to new adventures, possibilities, ideas, and interests. That in turn, will make you a more interesting and creative writer. It will also give you more material to talk, think, and write about.

Lastly, have a notebook that you carry around that you can jot ideas or thoughts throughout the day. I also put a notebook beside my bed because right before I fall asleep, I get a lot of great ideas of things to write about. If I don't write these ideas down before I fall asleep, by the time I am ready to write about them, I usually have forgotten about them. By having a notebook handy to jot down ideas and thoughts, it will give you a head start on finding something creative to write  about and increase your confidence in your writing skills.

Remember that unleashing your creative writing skills isn't something that usually happens magically overnight, but it is something that happens over time. It is like a muscle that you have to exercise. For instance, when you work out the first time, your muscles don't instantly get stronger and muscular overnight. It takes time. Try the ideas that I have mentioned and you will start coming up with more and more ideas to unleash your creative thinking and writing.
