WRITING FOR CHILDREN

Write4Kids.com, the Children's Writing Supersite
All about writing books and stories for children: advice, how-to info, tips, messaging, research links and much more. Presented by Children's Book Insider, the newsletter for children's writers.

The Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators
The Society says it was ‘formed in 1971 by a group of Los Angeles  based writers for children, and is the only international organization to offer  a variety of services to people who write, illustrate, or share a vital  interest in children’s literature’.

The Children’s Literature Web Guide
This site describes itself as: ‘an attempt to gather together and categorize the growing number of Internet resources related to books for Children and Young Adults. Much of the information that you can find through these pages is provided by others: fans, schools, libraries, and commercial enterprises involved in the book world’.

The Word Pool provides many things, including a list of titles aimed at children who don’t like to read. There are books on numeracy, Big Books for teachers on the problem of “can’t read, won’t read”, plus a section on writing for children. Hosted by Steve & Diana Kimpton, they also have a Directory of authors, illustrators and publishers of childrens’ books. Find this at: ukchildrensbooks.co.uk

This site calls itself the Colossal Directory of Publishers. A touch immodest? Perhaps not. It has a huge raft of resources: articles, book publishers, magazine publishers, writing courses, manuscript marketing, reviews and a free newsletter.

Booktrusted.com Pages on: Advice for parents, Recommended books, Book events, Book news, and much more. Also lists bookshops specialising in childrens’ books.

Federation of Children’s Book Groups This site was founded by Anne Wood, originator of The Telly Tubbies. The site declares its “main role is to act as the umbrella organisation for local autonomous Children's Book Groups all around the UK. The Book Groups organise a variety of activities in their localities, often in conjunction with, or in support of, their local schools and libraries.”

Quality of Course Distance learning courses (they are based in Canada) on all aspects of writing, but have a course specifically for children’s writers.

SmartWriters is “for everyone who writes, reads or teaches literature for kids.” Links for writers and educators, and you can subscribe to the Smart Writers Journal.
