Competition Winners

Congratulations to our three prize winners, and a big 'well done' for three 'Highly Commended' stories.

The overall standard of entries was very good once again and choosing three winners was not easy. Prizes were: 1st - £70.00, 2nd - £35.00 and 3rd - £20.00.

Three stories were also given a 'Highly Commended' status and have been awarded an unadvertised gift of £10 each.

Our judge, Frances Clamp, is the author of several books, both fiction and non-fiction. She has also written many short stories which have been published in national magazines. Her output includes: for children, a trilogy and a fantasy adventure book, and in the non-fiction sphere books on local history. Her 11th book entitled "Basildon Our Heritage" has recently been published.

• 2nd Prize - When Worlds Collide by Russell Turner
  
  Judges comment: "This is a well developed storyline leading to a very satisfactory ending."
• 3rd Prize - A Fair Cop by David Wass
  
  Judges comment: "The tension builds up well in this story and leads on to a first rate conclusion."
• Highly Commended - Cornflowers by Ruth Hatfield
  
  Judges comment: "Very picturesque, descriptive writing".
• Highly Commended - False Alarm by Christine Sutton
  
  Judges comment: "An unusual and well written story."
• Highly Commended - Annie Gets a Gadget by Sue Lovett
  
  Judges comment: "I liked the way the storyline developed and the introduction of humour. The conclusion was satisfying.
