Fitzcarraldo Editions Essay Prize
Closing date: 15th March 2017.
Prize: A £3,000, publication and a three-month writer's residency at the Mahler and Lee Witt Studios in Spoleto, Italy, to work on the book.
Entry Fee: None - free entry.
This contest, which is supported by the Arts Council, is for the best proposal for a book-length essay (over 25,000 words) by a writer living in the UK or Ireland who has yet to secure a publishing deal.  Proposals should run to no more than 5,000 words. The judges will be looking for proposals that explore and expand the possibilities of the essay form.  Well, you didn’t expect it to be easy with such a big prize at stake, did you?
