Crowvus Christmas Ghost Story Competition 2017
Closing date: Midnight on 30th September 2017. Winners will be announced on the 6th November 2017.
Prizes: First prize - Adults share 40% of entry fees; Children under 16 - £50 one4all gift card; 6 highly commended places which, along with the winners, will be featured in an anthology that will be published in time for Christmas.
Entry fee: Children's entries are FREE, adults can send one story for £3, or 2 stories for £5. There is a maximum of 2 stories per author.
Looking for: Chilling tales for Christmas entertainment in up to 4,000 words.
Further details: The competition is open to both children (under 16) and adults.

Benjamin Franklin House Literary Prize
Closing date: 31 October 2017.
Prizes: £750, £500, web publication

Looking for: Fiction and non-fiction interpretations, 1,000-1,500 words, by young writers aged 18-25, of the Benjamin Franklin quote:
'If you would not be forgotten, As soon as you are dead and rotten, either write things worth reading, or do things worth the writing.'

Young Walter Scott Prize
Closing date: 31st October 2017.
Prizes:Entries will be judged in two categories 11 to 15yrs and 16 to19 yrs. The winners of each category will be offered a travel and research grant to further explore historical places in the UK, and an invitation to the Borders Book Festival in Melrose, Scotland, in June >2018, to receive their prizes from the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch. Two runners-up in each category receive a £100 book token, and all four winning stories are published in a special YWSP anthology book.
Entry fee:Free to enter.
Theme: Historical Fiction.
Looking for: a piece of creative writing between 800 and 2000 words, inspired by any aspect of the past ­ an actual historical event, place or person.  It just has to be set in a time before you were born ­ a time recognisably different from the present.  By creative writing we mean prose stories, poetry or drama ­ and they can be in the form of diaries, letters of reportage.
